You would think that in a country with practically the most rainfall on earth, the lads would know how to drain a road? But that would be too easy. The drains are at the high point, usually, so the storm drains don’t fill up too quickly. Or so is my explanation. What is yours?

I recently wanted to put some more water into my car’s cooling system. So I went to a gas station and to my amazement, i discovered that the car wash section was designed by the famous designer. Look at the wave that the pipes form! Must have been a great plumber, too.. the artists ideas were totally well explumbed. The wave then continues into the retro-style vending machine (note the Colani letters at the front!) and into the jet brush. Ex-plumbanism!
And finally, I grabbed the special cooling water refill container out of that installation and refilled!

Up high in many houses, there is a nice attic that can usually be reached by taking a small stepladder, removing the timber board over your head that seals the little access hole to the attic, and then trying to grab the roof members with your hands. Then pull yourself up in a neck breaking move, right through the hole. Make sure you take a torch. When you are up there, you will discover a new world.

What you see there, would probably take up a 3-day seminar of “Construction Errors in Housing” or maybe “Mechanical Installations for Dummies”. There is usually a water tank that supplies gravity pressurized water to the relevant house (here: the thing covered in rockwool). Not a bad idea, well, just after a few years you can probably put some Philadelphia into the water tank, and you have Camenbert after a few days!
Also there are some flexible ducts, absolutely properly fixed to the roof members with adequate fixings (duck tape). An interesting fact may be that the ducts, usually being ventilation ducts off the bathrooms below and as such extracting some humidity, are not insulated. You may guess. Condensate appears in the ducts and accumulates in the correctly installed bends (see in the picture, at the bottom right) and after some time, the condensate overflows and runs back into the bathroom (Well, er, why did it leave, then?)
Also, the pipe routing is a very fine example. The lad that did that must have finished University. The duck tape installations are quite arty! ??

This sub distribution board was made using the finest unisolated cable, installed nicely in a huge trunk.
And this board, well the job had to get finished, ‘aye?, and the cover was gone, so why not stick a cardboard cover onto the board? A ye sure, it’ll be grand!

This shows a common way to fit doors. First, the door is fixed using additional struts. Near the proposed opening. After this, the opening is being narrowed by bricklayers to the final dimensions. This way, the builder can make sure that the ope in the wall is a big as the door, and also can cause the most possible destruction to the door. Plus, the wall next to the door looks a little patchwork-like, and your house gets character!

This great example of before / after shows what a dedicated plumber craftsman can do to really improve things. Some hi-tech downpipes installed, state-of the art urinals, stainless steel floor channel, job done. 5 stars! Ain’t it? (Thanks to *** Company Presentation Brochure)

A very common bathroom sink design, the 2 tap solution seems on the rise again. One would believe that mixer taps are not too uncommon these days, but - hey - it is irish plumbing! So, if you are not fast enough, burn your right hand and freeze your left.

Here, we can see a water heater cabinet in a detached house. That house is roughly 2 years old. However, the builder decided to fully outplumb all available space so that there is no danger of anything being stored here. A great job, I’d say. Do you agree?

From today, the fine art of plumbing in Ireland is going to be saved for the future. Since the plumbing itself won’t sustain for any long, this blog will, at last! Let the show begin!
